Wall paintings in the Church's Žlutice

Abstract:

Předmětem práce je zpracování freskové výzdoby v interiéru kostela sv. Petra a Pavla ve Žluticích. Důležitým vodítkem pro správnou interpretaci maleb v kostele bylo dohledání dokumentů s tématikou stavebních a restaurátorských prací. Na základě studia pramenů (stavebně historické průzkumy, restaurátorské zprávy, odborné vyjádření atd.) se mohla práce opřít o věrohodné informace o rozsahu a zachovalosti malovaných ploch. Důležitým aspektem pro věrohodné interpretace bylo přímé studium fresek v kostele. Práce je koncipována snahou objektivně postihnout význam fresek. Nejvíce dochovaný malovaný celek se nachází v jižní boční lodi v prvním klenebním poli. Další výraznou dochovanou výmalbou je malebná výzdoba na vítězném oblouku v hlavní lodi kostela. V ostatních částech kostela jsou fresky ve značném fragmentálním stavu (často jsou odkryté průzkumnými sondami). Jen stěží lze z nich vyčíst námětovou podstatu. V kostele zaujímá pozornost též množství nápisů a stavebních značek. Freskovou výzdobu ústředních ploch lze časově zařadit do období závěrečných stavebních rekonstrukcí na kostele v období utrakvismu. Nápis s letopočtem 1437 u výjevu se sv. Kateřinou, se při srovnání charakteru písma podařilo zařadit do období kolem roku 1500. Referovaný nápis lze interpretovat jako votivní projev autora. Celková fresková výzdoba v interiéru kostela je velmi cenným historickým a uměleckým pramenem pro lepší pochopení významu daného regionu.

Abstract:

The subject matter of my work is the processing of fresco decoration in the interior of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Žlutice. An important guiding principle for the proper interpretation of paintings in the church was the finding of documents focusing on construction and renovation work. Following study of sources (construction and historical surveys, renovation reports, expert opinions, etc.) it was possible to base the work on credible information regarding the scope and the condition of the painted surfaces. The important aspect for credible interpretation was the direct study of frescos in the church. The work is conceived so as to capture objectively the significance of frescos. Best preserved painted unit is located in the side aisle in the first severy. Another significant preserved painting decoration is the painting at the arch of triumph in the nave of the church. In other parts of the church the frescos are significantly fragmented (often revealed by various survey examinations). It is very difficult to form any ideas of fresco topics. A number of inscriptions and construction markings in the church also attract attention. The fresco decorations of central areas may be placed in the time of final reconstruction work performed at the church in the period of Utraquism. By means of comparison of scripture character, it was possible to place the inscription with the year 1437 at the scene with St. Catherine to the time around 1500. The said inscription may be interpreted as a votive expression of the author. The whole fresco decoration in church interior is a very valuable historical and artistic source which allows better understanding of the significance of the particular region.
