The specifics of the approach to gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils in secondary schools

Abstract:

Pohled na nadání a stejně tak přístup k nadaným a mimořádně nadaným žákům se v průběhu historie měnil. První snahy o nalezení jednoduchého testu, kterým by bylo možné nadané jedince identifikovat se objevují již na konci 19. století. Následuje pak dlouhé období, kdy se přeceňuje význam IQ, a výsledky inteligenčních testů se považují za hlavní ukazatel nadání. Nadání je však komplexním problémem, a protože je každý žák individuální, není možné ho diagnostikovat na základě jediného unifikovaného inteligenčního nebo výkonového testu. Stejně tak je mýtem, že nadaného jedince poznáme na první pohled. Tato práce popisuje historický vývoj postojů k nadání a jeho identifikaci, charakteristiky osobnosti nadaného žáka a speciální přístupy k nadanému žákovi aplikovatelné na českých, zejména středních školách a jejich oporu v české legislativě. V praktické části práce je vyhodnocen dotazník, ve kterém byl zjišťován aktuální přístup pedagogů středních škol k této problematice.

Abstract:

The view of giftedness, as well as the approach to gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils, has changed through history. The first efforts to find a simple test that could be used to identify gifted individuals appeared at the end of the 19th century. Then, a long period when the importance of IQ is overestimated followed, and the results of intelligence tests are considered the main indicator of talent. However, giftedness is a complex problem, and because each pupil is individual, it cannot be diagnosed on the basis of a single unified intelligence or performance test. Likewise, it is a myth that we recognize a gifted student at first sight. This thesis describes the historical development of attitudes towards giftedness and its identification, the characteristics of the gifted pupil's personality and special approaches to the gifted pupil applicable in Czech, especially secondary schools, and their support in Czech legislation. In the practical part of the thesis, a questionnaire was evaluated, in which the current approach of secondary school teachers to this issue was determined.
