Reflection of lexicological and lexicographical issues in present-day secondary school textbooks of Czech

Abstract:

Diplomová práce podává zevrubnou informaci o zpracování lexikologicko-lexikografické tematiky v současných učebních textech pro střední školy a zároveň přispívá ke zmapování relace mezi obsahem učebnic, požadavky a představami učitelů a reálnými znalostmi studentů. Práce se opírá o reprezentativní výběr současných učebnic českého jazyka, její materiálové východisko tvoří excerpované údaje informující o rozsahu, obsahu i způsobu zpracování lexikologické problematiky v těchto publikacích. Hlavní pozornost je soustředěna na terminologii a výklady lexikologických pojmů, významnou součást práce proto tvoří slovník přehledně shrnující a porovnávající termíny a jejich významové definice excerpované ze všech sledovaných učebnic. Skutečné středoškolské znalosti lexikologické terminologie byly testovány na vzorku studentů vybraných škol a konfrontovány s očekáváním vyučujících. Cílem práce je přispět ke zhodnocení jednotlivých učebnic z hlediska jejich využitelnosti v praxi.

Abstract:

The thesis presents detailed information about the description of lexicological and lexicographical topics by contemporary secondary school textbooks and simultaneously helps to map relations between the textbooks’ content, teachers’ requirements and expectations, and students’ actual knowledge. The work uses a representative selection of contemporary Czech language textbooks and its base material is made of excerpted notes informing on the scope, content, and lexicological problems in these publications. Attention is paid to terminology and the interpretation of lexicological terms and significant part of the work is therefore dedicated to an index summarising and comparing the terms and their definitions as excerpted from all of the textbooks in question. High school students’ knowledge of lexicological terminology had been tested on a sample group of students from selected schools and contrasted with the teachers’ expectations. The goal of the present work is to contribute to individual textbooks’ evaluation based on their applicability in practice.
