German-Czech relations in the mirror of the North Bohemian Daily

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the relationship between the Czechs and the Germans who lived together since the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 until the end of the First Republic in 1938. It also deals with language devices used in the Nordböhmisches Tagblatt journal. The first part of this work concentrates on the general historical context of the First Republic and then on the historical background of northwest Czechoslovakia of the time period examined. The Nordböhmisches Tagblatt journal is briefly introduced as well. In the second part, which is the practical part of this thesis, based on a number of articles from the Nordböhmisches Tagblatt journal the relationships between the Germans and the Czechs during the times of the First Republic are examined. Through a linguistic analysis of the journal's articles not only linguistic and persuasive devices but also propaganda techniques are analysed. This thesis should contribute to a better understanding of Czech-German relationships during the First Republic and following times.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahy Čechů a Němců, kteří společně žili v době od založení Československa roku 1918 až po skončení první republiky roku 1938, a jazykovými prostředky užitými v textech deníku Nordböhmisches Tagblatt. První, teoretická část této práce se zabývá historickým kontextem, nejprve první republiky obecně a poté kontextem severozápadních Čech ve zkoumaném období. Taktéž je stručně představen deník Nordböhmisches Tagblatt. Ve druhé, praktické části, jsou zkoumány vztahy Čechů a Němců za první republiky na základě článků deníku Nordböhmisches Tagblatt. Pomocí lingvistické analýzy publicistických textů jsou zjišťovány použité jazykové a persvazivní prostředky a rovněž prostředky propagandistické. Práce by měla přispět k lepšímu pochopení česko-německých vztahů v období první republiky, ale i v letech následujících.
