This master’s thesis examines the medieval Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, and its connection to the phenomenon of medieval pilgrimage. Through the analysis of its history, architecture and coeval literary sources, this thesis attempts to answer whether and to what extent the Cathedral could have been an important pilgrimage destination.
