Hedge fund strategies and their impact on the return

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o základních investičních strategiích, které jsou využívány Hedge fondy, jako jednou z mnoha forem kolektivního investování. Účelem je obeznámit čtenáře o základním teoretickém vymezení těch nejvíce využívaných strategiích a zároveň popsat jejich základní charakteristiky, způsob jak se investice provádí, případně i jejich výhody a nevýhody. Následně druhá část práce je zaměřena na výklad empirických dat, které zachycují výnosnost Hedge fondů v návaznosti na použité strategii. Na závěr jsou tato data přepočtena použitím Sharpe ratia.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis summarizes general investment strategies used by Hedge funds, as one of the many forms of collective investment vehicles. The main purpose of the thesis is to inform the reader about theoretical definition of strategies used by the vast majority of Hedge funds in the world and simultaneously to describe their basic characteristics, whole investment process and eventually their advantages or risk incorporated in each strategy. Furthermore, the second part of the thesis aims to interpret gathered empirical data about returns of each observed strategy. At the end, these data are recalculated again with the use of Sharpe ratio.
