Existential isolation in context of attachment to different figures in adults

Abstract:

Existenciální izolace neboli pocit, že nemůžeme nikdy plně sdílet naše prožívání s druhými lidmi, začala být předmětem výzkumu až v posledních několika letech. Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat souvislost existenciální izolace s attachmentem k matce, otci a partnerovi. Výzkumný soubor obsahoval 377 osob ve věku 18-60 let. Využity byly dotazníky Existential Isolation Scale a Experiences in Close Relationships-Short Form. Existenciální izolace pozitivně korelovala s nejistým attachmentem k matce, otci i partnerovi. Těsnější vztah byl nalezen mezi existenciální izolací a vyhýbavostí než úzkostností vůči matce a otci. Nejsilnějším prediktorem existenciální izolace byl nejistý attachment k partnerovi, konkrétně vyhýbavost vůči partnerovi. Attachment k otci byl v těsnějším vztahu s attachmentem k matce než s attachmentem k partnerovi a k partnerovi vykazovali respondenti bezpečnější vazbu než k otci. Dimenze úzkostnosti byla konzistentnější mezi figurami než dimenze vyhýbavosti. Navzdory očekávání muži nedosahovali signifikantně vyšších skórů existenciální izolace než ženy a délka vztahu nesouvisela s mírou nejistého attachmentu k partnerovi.

Abstract:

Existential isolation, the feeling that we can never fully share our experiences with other people, has only been the subject of research in the last few years. The aim of this work was to investigate the connection between existential isolation and attachment to the mother, father and partner. The research group contained 377 people aged 18-60 years. The questionnaires Existential Isolation Scale and Experiences in Close Relahtionships-Short Form were used. Existential isolation was positively correlated with insecure attachment to mother, father and partner. A stronger relationship was found between existential isolation and avoidance than anxiety to mother and father. The strongest predictor of existential isolation was insecure attachment to the partner, specifically avoidance with the partner. Attachment to the father was more closely related to the attachment to the mother than to the attachment to the partner, and the respondents showed securer attachment to the partner than to the father. The anxiety dimension was more consistent between the figures than the avoidance dimension. Contrary to expectations, men did not achieve significantly higher existential isolation scores than women, and the length of the relationship was not related to the level of insecure attachment to the partner.
