Social construction of religious conviction of employees when working with clients in the hostel for mothers with children at the Salvation Army

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci náboženského přesvědčení pomáhajících pracovníků při práci s klienty v azylovém domě pro matky s dětmi v Armádě spásy. Je zaměřena na to, jakým způsobem pomáhající pracovníci kategorizují, stereotypizují a idealizují své náboženské přesvědčení při své práci. Teoretická část se zabývá vymezením klíčových pojmů a vztahů mezi nimi, seznámí čtenáře s vymezením pojmu náboženské přesvědčení, vymezí vztah mezi náboženstvím a sociálními službami a náboženským přesvědčením pomáhajícího pracovníka. Empirická část je založena na interpretaci dat získaných kvalitativní výzkumnou strategii, která byla realizována technikou strukturovaného rozhovoru. Získaná data jsou interpretována na základě otevřeného kódování, a to analýzou rozhovorů do vytvořených kategorií, subkategorií a dimenzí. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že Armáda spásy potřebuje jasněji vymezit hranice pro poskytování duchovních služeb, aby pomáhající pracovníci měli vymezené kompetence pro uplatňování svého náboženského přesvědčení. V závěru práce autorka odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku a navrhuje doporučení pro další výzkum a praxi.

Abstract:

The thesis has explored the construct of the religious belief of helping professionals in their work with the clients of a Mothers and Children Home of the Salvation Army. It has been aimed at examining the way how the helping professionals categorize, stereotypy and idealize their religious belief in their work. The theoretical part of the work deals with the definition of key concepts and their relations. It presents to the reader the notion of religious belief; it defines the relation between the religion, social services and religious belief of helping professionals. The empirical part is based on an interpretation of data gained through qualitative research strategy implemented through the technique of structured talk. The collected data have been interpreted on the basis of open coding, i.e. through analysing talks, into created categories, subcategories and dimensions. The result of the thesis has shown that the Salvation Army needs better defined limits for offering spiritual services so that helping professionals had more clearly defined competences to exercise their religious belief. In the conclusion of the thesis, the author gives the answer to the main research question and presents recommendations for both further research and praxis.
