Abstract:

In my Bacalar Thesis I am documenting a slow-dying profession, that is still kept alive in Slovakian mountains. "Tatranský Sherpa" are carrying heavy loads on their backs up the mountains, delivering food and necessities to cottages and chalets in areas of high altitude and/or areas that are unreachable by other means of transport. They do so daily, in every weather condition and over difficult and extreme terrains. Often they are wrestling their way through snow, storm and whirlwind. Risking their lives every day on the job, but they absolutely love it. Without "tatranskych Sherpas" the mountains wouldn't be what they are today. There wouldn't be cable cars, cottages or observation desks. They are soul of the High Tatras. As long as we keep meeting them on our way up, we can still rest assure that technology didn't reach every corner yet. Thankfully. I feel thankful to be born in the country, that has kept this tradition for so long. I have decided to document this old profession, as it became my passion and lifestyle I love. I believe, most people don't even know it exists or what it takes. It is our cultural heritage. One we should save and protect. With my work I would like to expose this beautiful profession, performed with love for the mountains and the nature. My mission was to show the importance of "Tatransky Sherpa." So when tourists visit mountains they would have better understanding and appreciation when enjoying the tea or bear with Horalka bite. Anything you buy there is carried for hours on someone else's back. Anything you leave behind on your plate is a waste. Simply be more grateful for what is around you and what you have. It is a privilege, especially so high up in the nature. So respect it. "Posledni" is a book presenting daily responsibilities of handling and carrying food and products as heavy as bottles of drinks and barrels of bear.In my work I recorded a story during a one year period. I would like to continue with the project past this thesis and for as long as I work there. I plan on getting into depths of mountain life and capturing more stories.

Abstract:

Mojou bakalárskou prácou je zdokumentovanie posledného povolania ako takého na svete, ktoré sa robí už len na Slovensku. Vysokohorský nosiči, vynášajú ťažký náklad na chod vysokohorskej turistickej chaty denne za každého počasia v náročné exponovanom teréne. Častokrát sa brodia v snehu alebo odolávajú búrke či víchrici riskujú životy a ešte ich to i baví. Bez nich by naše hory nemali takú tvár ako dnes. Neboli by lanovky, vleky a ani chaty. Sú dušou Tatier a pokým ich budeme stretávať na chodníku, tak si môžeme povedať, že aspoň niekde človečina nepodľahla technike. Je to pre mňa tak vzácne a ojedinele aj tým, že sa to robí len na Slovensku, v mojej rodnej krajine, že som sa rozhodla pravé zdokumentovať túto moju pracú a život, lebo si myslím, že veľa ľudí ani nevie, že to existuje alebo čo to obnáša. Je to akoby naše kultúrne dedičstvo, ktoré treba zachovať a chrániť. Preto by som touto mojou prácou chcela ukázať toto krásne povolanie robene z lásky k horám. Mojím cieľom bolo poukázať, že tatranskí nosiči majú svoje opodstatnenie. Aby ľudia, keď ich vidia na chodníku s tým ťažkým nákladom, mali iný prístup k tomu, čo si na tej chate kúpia, aby si vážili ten hlt piva alebo čaju, alebo horalku, ktorú si tam kúpia a nevyhadzovali to alebo nechávali na tanieri. Prosto vážiť si veci okolo seba. Finálnym výstupom je kniha zobrazujúca len denné vynášanie ťažkého nákladu, tovaru ako pivo, kofola v sudoch a rôzne jedlo ktoré sa na chate potom vari. Bakalársku prácu považujem len za načatý projekt, v ktorom chcem pokračovať, pokiaľ budem sama vykonávať túto prácu. Doba jedného roka nie je dostatočná na preniknutie do podstaty filozofie práce tatranského nosiča.
