Traditional folk culture in The Peasants by Władysław Reymont

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na téma tradiční lidová kultura v Sedlácích od Władysława Reymonta. V práci je popsána rekonstrukce života významného spisovatele. Práce analyzuje lidové zvyky popsané ve čtyřdílném románu Sedláci a srovnává je s etnografickou literaturou zaměřenou na popis zvyků a pověr na území Polska a v jiných slovanských oblastech. Není opomenuto základní pojmosloví týkající se problematiky lidové kultury. Práce se věnuje rodinným a výročním zvykům, které se praktikovaly na přelomu 19. a 20. století ve venkovském prostoru. Cílem bakalářské práce bylo porovnat zvyky a tradice objevující se v díle Sedláci se zvyky a tradicemi vyskytující se na evropském území.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the motif of traditional folk culture in the novel The Peasants by Władysław Reymont. A reconstruction of the life of this Nobel Prize-winning novelist is described in this work. This work analyses folk traditions depicted in the four-volume novel The Peasants and compares them with ethnographic literature focused on the description of customs and myths found in Poland and other Slavic regions. The thesis includes basic terminology used to refer to issues of folk culture. This thesis deals with family traditions and annual ceremonies practised in rural areas at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. The main goal of the thesis is to compare the customs and traditions described in the novel The Peasants with the customs and traditions found in Europe.
