Automatism in the theater. The comparison of French, Quebec and Czech surrealism-interdisciplinary project

Abstract:

This diploma thesis presents a proposal of an interdisciplinary project, which will enable high school French teachers to acquaint students with three varieties of surrealism – in France, Quebec, and Czechoslovakia – together with the French language and its chosen phenomena in discussions, reading and writing. The result of the project is an educational exhibition and a theater performance. After describing the historical and cultural context, the development of automatic writing, and the specifics of surrealism in each country, there is a comparative analysis of three surrealistic theatrical plays: Victor ou les enfant au pouvoir by Roger Vitrac, Zlověstný pták by Vitezslav Nezval, and La charge de l'orignal épormyable by Claude Gauvreau. The third part of the thesis deals with the definition of project teaching, its advantages and drawbacks, and presents a detailed design of the project in a French language class, defining objectives and roles. Students will become familiar with the automatism method not only theoretically, but will also have the opportunity to practice it. Part of the diploma thesis is the necessary materials – sheet for teachers of the French language and several worksheets for students, which will allow to reflect and subsequently evaluate activities of individuals throughout the project.

Diplomová práce představuje návrh mezioborového projektu, jež umožní zejména učiteli francouzského jazyka na střední škole seznámit studenty s třemi projevy surrealismu – ve Franci, v Québecu a v ČSR – společně s procvičením francouzského jazyka a jeho vybraných jevů v diskusích, četbě i psanou formou. Výsledkem projektu je zamýšlena vzdělávací výstava a divadelní představení. Po popisu historického a kulturního kontextu, vývoje automatického psaní a specifik surrealismu v jednotlivých zemích následuje srovnávací analýza tří surrealistických divadelních her : Victor ou les enfant au pouvoir od Rogera Vitraca, Zlověstný pták Vítězslava Nezvala a La charge de l´orignal épormyable Clauda Gauvreau. Třetí část práce se věnuje definici projektové výuky, jejím výhodám i úskalím, a zejména předkládá podrobný návrh průběhu projektu v hodinách francouzského jazyka, definování cílů i rolí. Studenti se díky projektu seznámí s metodou automatismu nejen teoreticky, ale budou mít možnost i praktického vyzkoušení. Součástí diplomové práce jsou potřebné materiály – pedagogický list pro učitele francouzského jazyka a několik pracovních listů pro studenty, které umožní reflektovat a následně hodnotit činnost jednotlivců během celého projektu.
