Strategies of dealing with death of clients through the perspective of helping workers in selected senior houses

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá strategiemi vyrovnávání se pomáhajících pracovníků se smrtí klientů ve vybraných domovech pro seniory. Cílem je zjistit, jaké pocity a prožívání vyvolává smrt klienta u pomáhajících pracovníků. Také zjišťuje, jak si pomáhající pracovníci představují úspěšné vyrovnávání se se smrtí klienta a v neposlední řadě, zda mají nějaké metody, které jim pomáhají vyrovnat se se smrtí klienta. Teoretická část práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol: vyrovnávání se se smrtí v postmoderní společnosti, pomáhající pracovníci a jejich klienti a strategie vyrovnávání se pomáhajících pracovníků se smrtí klientů. V metodologické části je představena kvalitativní výzkumná strategie, která byla použita prostřednictvím polostrukturovaného rozhovoru se sedmi respondenty vybraných dvou domovů pro seniory. Tímto způsobem sebraná data jsou analyzována a následně interpretovaná pomocí otevřeného kódování. Podle výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že strategie, které pomáhající pracovníci používají, existují ve formě vzpomínkových strategií, vnitřních strategií rozloučení se s klientem, viditelných rituálů, kolektivního postupu rozloučení se se zemřelým klientem, strategie nastavených hranic, strategie naprosté profesionality, metody odůvodnění si smrti klienta a strategie empatického člověka.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the strategies of accepting death of clients through the perspective of helping workers in selected senior houses. The goal is to find out the impact or influence of the death of clients on feelings and the experience of the helping workers. It also identifies how helping workers understand/imagine the term of successful coping with the client’s death and, last but not least, whether they have or employ some methods to help themselves to cope with the death of the client. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into three chapters: coping with death in postmodern society, helping workers and their clients and, the strategies of dealing with death of clients through the perspective of helping staff. The methodological part presents a qualitative research strategy, which was used through a semi-structured interview with seven respondents of two selected senior houses. The data, collected this way, had been analyzed and subsequently interpreted by open coding. According to the research, the strategies used by the assisting workers exist in the form of commemorative strategies, internal strategies for gradual parting with the client, visible rituals, a collective process of farewell to a deceased client, strategy of set-up boundaries, strategy of a complete professionalism, a method of explanation and conciliation with death of a client and, the strategy of a person of empathy.
