Colonization of solid materials by filamentous fungi with regard to the biodegradation

Abstract:

Jedním z majoritních problémů dnešní společnosti je množství nebezpečných odpadů, zejména plastů, jejichž výroba neustále roste a z nichž většina je nedegradovatelná a významně ohrožuje životní prostředí. Stále více je upírána pozornost ke schopnosti ligninolytických hub vytvářet řadu enzymů a jejich prostřednictvím degradovat polyfenolický biopolymer - lignin, díky čemuž je lze použít k biodegradaci xenobiotik a organopolutantů. Literární část této práce se zaměřuje na prezentaci poznatků získaných studiem ligninolytických hub a degradace plastových materiálů. Experimentálně byla sledována schopnost houbového kmene Irpex lacteus kolonizovat různé typy pevných, zejména plastových materiálů s ohledem na jejich biodegradaci. U většiny materiálů byla prokázána pozitivní kolonizace a v případě plastových fólií degradace související se zmatněním a mechanickým narušením jejich povrchu.

Abstract:

One of the One of major today´s environmental problems is the amount of hazardous wastes, especially plastics, whose production has been growing. Most of them are non-degradable and thus endangering the environment. The attention is paid to the ability of ligninolytic fungi that synthesize a number of extracellular enzymes that are involved in the degradation of lignin but are also able to attack various xenobiotics and organopollutants. This work represents a general survey of literature focussed on the topic of biodegradation of plastics including ligninolytic fungi. In the experimental part, the ability of the fungus Irpex lacteus to colonize various types of solid materials and plastics with regard to their biodegradation was studied. A successful colonization was demonstrated for the majority of materials and, in the case of plastic foils, a possible degradation could correlate with the dulling and mechanichal disruption of the plastics surface observed in the experiments
