The Northern Ireland Conflict and its influence on political situation in the United Kingdom

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou přístupu vnitřních aktérů k severoirskému konfliktu a jeho řešení. Největší důraz je kladen na chování britských politických elit a mapování změn v jejich přístupu ke konfliktu. Na pozadí chronologicky řazených událostí od historických počátků sporů až dodnes je u britských elit sledován přechod od principu hry s nulovým součtem ke koncepci hry s nenulovým součtem. Práce dále sleduje konfliktní fáze a hodnotí úspěšnost postupně uzavíraných mírových smluv.

Abstract:

This essay analyzes the approach of inner players to the Northern Ireland conflict and its management. It emphasizes the behaviour of the British political elites and how do their attitudes change throughout the conflict. Chronologically, it follows the shift of British approach from the principle of zero sum game to the concept of non-zero sum game. The essay also follows the conflict phases and evaluates the success of the gradually achieved peace agreements.
