Diffusion of hip - hop subcultures: globalized and postmodern identity?

Abstract:

Současný svět a společnost ovlivňuje globalizace a postmoderní změny. Hip hopová subkultura, která původně vznikla v Americe, se šíří po celém světě. Následkem kulturní globalizace je míchání různých kulturních toků a identit. V postmoderních podmínkách jsou jedinci tvůrci vlastní identity, která není pevně dána a zobrazuje se v ní proměnlivost a nestálost současného světa. Identita je pluralizována a pojí se životními styly a neokmeny, které mají fluidní hranice a jsou založeny na členství v pohybu. Moderní subkultury byly stylově homogenní, s pevnými hranicemi a souvisely s politickým gestem vzdoru. Postmoderní subkultury a identity neodkazují na kategorie, jako jsou třída a etnicita, politický vzdor atd. Současná hip hopová kultura je zdrojem pro postmoderní identitu.

Abstract:

The contemporary world and society is influenced by globalization and cultural changes based on postmodernism. The Hip Hop subculture, which has its roots in America is quickly spreading all around the world. At the same time, multiple cultural flows, as well as identities, are mixing, as a consequence of cultural globalization. In the postmodern conditions, individuals are the creators of their own identities , which are not necessariliy consistent and reflect variability and plurality of the contemporary world. Individuals posses multiple identities, which they express through life styles and through memberships in the 'neo-tribes', characterized by fluid boundries and floating membership. Modern subsulture was homogenous with consistent border and rered to political resistance. The contemporary identities and subculture do not directly refer to traditional categories, such as class and etnicity, political resistance etc. The contemporary Hip Hop culture is an important source fueling the mushrooming of the postmodern identities.
