The prestige of the profession of teacher in kindergarten through the eyes of kindergarten teachers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá prestiží profese učitelů mateřských škol. V teoretické části jsou sumarizovány poznatky o prestiži jako multidimenzionálním pojetí. Dále jsou zde popsány historické souvislosti a vývoj prestiže učitelské profese. Teoretická část také popisuje kulturní a společenské determinanty, jež mají vliv na prestiž učitelů mateřských škol. Praktická část je založena na kvalitativním výzkumu, jehož hlavním cílem je popsat, jak učitelé mateřských škol vnímají prestiž svého povolání. Výzkumné šetření je realizováno prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s učitelkami mateřských škol. Zpracováním a analýzou dat z výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že učitelky mateřských škol považují svoji profesi za prestižní oproti veřejnému mínění. Výsledkem je navržení možných postupů ke zvýšení prestiže učitelů mateřských škol, jak ze strany učitelů, tak ze strany veřejnosti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the prestige of the profession of kindergarten teachers. In the theoretical part, the findings on prestige as a multidimensional concept are summarized. Furthermore, the historical context and development of the prestige of the teaching profession are described here. The theoretical part also describes the cultural and social determinants that influence the prestige of kindergarten teachers. The practical part is based on qualitative research, whose main goal is to describe how kindergarten teachers perceive the prestige of their profession. The research investigation is carried out through semi-structured interviews with kindergarten teachers. By processing and analyzing data from the research, it was found that kindergarten teachers consider their profession to be prestigious compared to public opinion. The result is the design of possible procedures to increase the prestige of kindergarten teachers, both on the part of teachers and on the part of the public.
