Mobile phone as a symbol of social status

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mobilním telefonem jako symbolem sociálního statusu. Klade si za cíl zjistit, zda je mobilní telefon považován za symbol sociálního statusu a jak je důležitý pro jedince, kteří jej používají. V teoretické části objasňuji základní pojmy jako sociální status, moc, prestiž, související teorie a výzkumy v oblasti. Ve druhé části jsem použila sociologickou sondáž, ve které jsem zhotovila několik hypotéz zaměřujících se na cíl mé práce. Sociologická sondáž a ověření hypotéz mi pomohlo objasnit vnímání mobilních telefonů jejich majiteli a sice tak, že vnímají jako symbol svého postavení značku mobilního telefonu nikoli samotné vlastnictví tohoto předmětu.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with the mobile phone as a symbol of social status. It aims to determine whether the mobile phone is considered a symbol of social status and how important it is for people who use it. The theoretical part explains the basic concepts such as social status, power, prestige, related theories and researches in the area. In the second part I used sociological probing, in which I made several hypotheses focusing on the goal of my work. Sociological probing and test hypotheses helped me clarify the perception of mobile phones by their owners and not as it is perceived as a status symbol brand mobile phone rather than under the ownership of that subject.
