The birth of a staging from the spirit of music, Musical concept of a staging as a basis for director's interpretation

Abstract:

Práce se scénickou hudbou (a celou akustickou stopou inscenace) se dlouhodobě ocitá na okraji akademického zájmu divadelníků, a to přesto, že hudební (či přesněji kompoziční) principy uvažování jsou přirozenou součástí režijní tvorby. Divadelní inscenace je tvořena mnoha složkami. Prokomponovat tyto složky, tematizovat je každou zvlášť a následně je skloubit do jednoho tvaru, jímž režisér sděluje svůj vlastní pohled na danou tematiku, to je s trochou představivosti srovnatelné s prací hudebního skladatele, který v symfonii spojuje v jednom aranžmá zcela rozdílné nástrojové skupiny, jež si mezi sebou předávají hlavní témata ve variacích. Takže o režijní koncepci (zapsané v režijní knize) lze hovořit třeba i jako o partituře inscenace. Tato práce chce na konkrétních inscenacích ukázat možnosti toho, jak můžeme svůj režijní klíč k inscenované látce založit na práci s vědomě organizovaným zvukem inscenace. Tento přístup lze s trochou nadsázky nazvat zrozením inscenace z ducha hudby. Na základě vlastní praktických zkušeností se pokusím definovat, čím práci činoherního režiséra obohatí pojmy jako rytmus, harmonie, struktura, tóny, hluky, ale i čas, akustika, rezonance, srozumitelnost a emoční scénář.

Abstract:

Working with incidental music (and the entire acoustic track to the play) has long been neglected by academic research, despite the fact that musical (or more precisely compositional) principles are a natural part of the director's work. Any theatre production consists of numerous components. Putting these components together, thematizing them separately and then combining them in a unified shape by which the director communicates his/her own view of the subject is, with a little imagination, comparable to the work of a composer who combines completely different instrument groups, passing on the main themes in variations within a symphony. Therefore the director's concept (recorded in the director's book) can be referred to as a score to the play. This paper intends to demonstrate, using specific productions, the possibilities of how the director's concept of the staged subject can be based on a consciously organized sound of the play. This approach can referred to, with a bit of exaggeration, as the birth of a staging from the spirit of music. Based on my own practical experience, I will try to define how the work of a drama director can be enriched by such concepts as rhythm, harmony, structure, tones, noises, but also time, acoustics, resonance, intelligibility and emotional script.
