The impact of organization structure on the novice researcher action

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se prostřednictvím etnografického výzkumu zabývá vlivem struktury organizace na jednání začínajících výzkumníků, kterými jsou lékaři a biomedicínští inženýři, kteří v souvislosti s plněním svých výzkumných úkolů vyjíždí na zahraniční stáž na Mayo Clinic. Práce mapuje, jak probíhá proces identifikace mladého výzkumníka s organizací, jak organizace může svojí strukturou a činností ovlivnit jednání jedince, s jakými situacemi a omezeními se výzkumníci během svého pobytu v zahraničí setkávají, a především, jaký vliv má stáž na jejich profesní rozvoj, který se přirozeně promítá do jejich jednání, které může zpětně ovlivnit fungování organizace a její strukturu. V práci se objeví sociologické hodnocení typů organizací ve kterých se výzkumníci pohybují a vlivu jejich rozdílných struktur na jednání výzkumníka. Současně je předložena úvaha, že se zahraniční stáže, kterých se mladí výzkumníci účastní, nepředstavují žádné zvláštní nebezpečí odlivu odborníků do zahraničí, ale stávají se spíše normou a podstatnou částí jejich individuální kariéry.

Abstract:

The thesis, through ethnographical research, deals with how the structure of an organization influences the action of research beginners such as physicians and biomedical engineers who go to the fellowship abroad at the Mayo Clinic, to fulfill their research tasks. The thesis traces the process of how young researchers identify themselves with the organization, then how the structure and function of the organization may influence the action of individuals and also, which situations and limitations, researchers may encounter during their stay abroad. And above all, what is the influence of the fellowship on their professional development, which naturally affects their actions and which may, consequently, influence the structure and function of the organization.The thesis evaluates different sociological types of organizations in which reseachers are involved and their different structures which influence the actions of individuals. At the same time, in the thesis, it is suggested that the foreign fellowships in which researchers participate, present little danger of causing an outflow of specialists abroad. The foreign fellowships have become the norm and an essential part of the individual career
