Opposition in Burma: its change along with the change of political regime

Abstract:

Téma změn barmského politického režimu je v současné době velmi aktuální. Tamní režim prochází proměnami, jako jsou formální změna vlády z vojenské na civilní, doplňkové volby, propouštění politických vězňů, rozhovory s opozičními vůdci a jejich přítomnost v parlamentu. Práce je zaměřena na postavení opozice v současné Barmě. Nejprve je prostor věnován charakteristice barmského politického režimu. Jeho podoba je pro fungování opozice zásadní. Poté se práce věnuje typologii opozičních subjektů a určení jejich strategií. Cílem práce je zhodnocení proměny opozice v souvislosti se současnou proměnou režimu. Práce proto rozebírá zda, a jakým způsobem, souvisí současná změna barmského režimu s proměnou opozičních subjektů, jejich strategií a cílů.

Abstract:

The issue of regime changes in Burma is nowadays a relevant matter of discussion. The political regime in Burma is passing through transformations such as formal change of military government to civilian one, by-elections, release of political prisoners, dialogue with leaders of opposition and their presence in the parliament. The thesis is focused on the position of the opposition in contemporary Burma. First the attention is paid to the characteristic of Burmese political regime, which form is fundamental for operation of the opposition. Then the thesis focuses on the typology of the subjects of opposition and their strategies. The aim of the work is analysis of transformation of the opposition in connection with the current transformation of the regime. That is why the thesis examines if, and how, contemporary change of Burmese regime relates to transformation of subjects of opposition, their strategies and aims.
