The genetic research into the hybrid zone between two subspecies of house mouse (Mus musculus musculus and Mus musculus domesticus) has so far indicated that, whereas its characteristic corresponds to the model predictions of so called tension zone, independent on the outer conditions, on local level its nature can be significantly affected by watercourses and other geographic barriers.
