Captions and other forms of written text as part of a theatrical sign system

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci zkoumám možnosti využití titulků jako součásti koncepčníhořešení divadelní inscenace. V první části práce vycházím z divácké zkušenosti zinscenace Orlando, viděné v rámci Pražského divadelního festivalu německéhojazyka, která byla impulzem ke zformulování poznatků o vlastnostech divadelníchtitulků a jejich potenciálu být použity jako umělecké médium. V praktické části prácepojednávám o vlastních zkušenostech z experimentů s divadelními titulky. Skrzereflexi tvůrčího procesu své klauzurní inscenace Closed in captions poskytuji konkrétnípříklady principů, v nichž jsou titulky použity jako klíčová složka. V závěru shrnu novátémata, která jsem ve své tvorbě s titulky objevil na základě sepsání této práce a určilsi je jako cíle dalšího výzkumu.

Abstract:

In this bachelor's thesis, I explore the possibility of using captions as part of theconceptual solution of a theatrical production. In the first part of the work I write aboutthe experience as a spectator of Orlando, a production seen at the Prague German Language Theatre Festival on basis of which I formulated an understanding of theproperties of theatrical captions and their potential to be used as an artistic medium.In the practical part of the work I discuss my own experience experimenting withcaptions in theatre. Through the reflection of the creative process of my final productionClosed in captions, I provide examples of the principles in which captions are used asa key component. In the last chapter, I will summarize the new topics that I discoveredupon finishing this thesis and identify new goals for furher research.
