Personal characterictics of middle and lower management

Abstract:

Předmětem práce je průzkum osobnostních charakteristik nižšího a středního managementu vyjádřených dimenzemi Bochumského osobnostního dotazníku a zjištění případných osobnostních předpokladů ovlivňujících úspěšnost manažerů. Teoretická část se věnuje managementu, manažerům a jejich osobnosti a talent managementu, který je potencionálně oblastí praktického využití výsledků práce. Hypotézy jsme stanovili na základě předchozích výzkumů osobnosti manažerů. Zkoumaným souborem bylo 67 liniových a 37 středních manažerů. Celkově zkoumaný soubor dosahoval podprůměrných skórů ve škálách Svědomitost, Rozhodnost, Senzitivita, Schopnost kontaktů a Sociabilita a nadprůměrného skóre v Orientaci na tým. Střední management ve srovnání s nižším skóroval statisticky významně výše v dimenzích Motivace k výkonu, Motivace k vedení, Flexibilita a Odolnost vůči zátěži. Za předpokladu, že středními manažery se stávají úspěšní linioví manažeři, lze tyto čtyři dimenze považovat za prediktory úspěšnosti manažerů. Výsledky korespondují se zjištěními D. McClellanda. Doporučujeme naše zjištění potvrdit dalšími výzkumy

Abstract:

The object of this thesis is research of the personal characteristics of lower and middle management expressed by the dimensions of Bochum personality questionnaire and identification of eventual personal dispositions influencing the managerial success. The theoretical part deals with management, managers and their personality and talent management, which is potentially the area of practical usage of the results of this study. The hypotheses were based on previous researches of the managerial personality. Our sample consists of 67 lower and 37 middle managers. The entire sample reached values below the average in the dimensions Exactness, Decisiveness, Sensitivity, Ability to make contacts and Sociability and above-average values in Team orientation. The middle management, compared to the lower one, scored significantly higher in the dimensions Motivation to achievement, Motivation to leadership, Flexibility and Resistibility to stress. In the case that middle managers are former successful lower managers, can these four dimensions be considered to be the predictors of managerial success. The results correspond to the findings of D. McClelland. We recommend our outcomes to be confirmed by further researches
