Impact of financial and economic crisis on pension systems in Europe

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je zhodnocení dopadu finanční a ekonomické krize na důchodové systémy v Evropě. Vlivem neustále rostoucí zadluženosti evropských zemí v kombinaci se strukturálními změnami ve společnosti, dochází ke zvyšujícímu se tlaku na systémy důchodového zabezpečení, a to především z hlediska jejich financování a dlouhodobé udržitelnosti. Nedávná krize ještě více prohloubila tyto problémy, upozornila na konkrétní slabiny současných systémů a zdůraznila potřebu provedení jejich reforem. V práci jsou tyto dopady nejprve rozebrány z obecného hlediska, přičemž následuje analýza důchodových systému vybraných zemí a na těchto příkladech je demonstrován dopad finanční a ekonomické krize v konkrétnější podobě. Nechybí ani deskripce penzijního systému České republiky, rozbor nedávno provedené důchodové reformy a na základě získaných poznatků, uvedená doporučení pro další možná zlepšení a reformy českého důchodového systému

Abstract:

The purpose of the thesis is to assess the impact of financial and economic crisis on pension systems in Europe. The trend of increasing public debts together with the structural changes in the society results into an increasing pressure on the pension systems, especially the matter of their funding and long-term sustainability. Recent crisis has made these problems even worse, drew attention on weaknesses of recent systems and emphasized the need of the steps leading to their improvement through consistent reforms. Thesis firstly deals with the consequences of recent crisis from the general point of view, following by analysis of the pension systems in selected countries and more specific impact of the crisis. Furthermore, the description of the Czech pension system including the brief analysis of recent reform is performed and finally, conclusions with recommendations for the future improvement and possible reforms are stated.
