Czechoslovak legion in textbooks and academic literature during the last hundred years

Abstract:

V roce 2018 si Česká republika připomínala sto let od vzniku první Československé republiky, za jejíž nástupnický stát se považuje. V kontextu oslav výročí byly vyzdvihnuty mnohé symboly první republiky jako např. Československé legie a legionáři. K jejich odkazu se politici a celý režim vyjadřovali veskrz pozitivně. Ovšem tento diskurz nebyl v historii vždy stejný. Cílem této magisterské práce je odhalit, jak se v průběhu historie Československa a České republiky vyvíjel diskurz a diskurzivní praktiky ve vztahu k reflektovanosti o Československých legiích a legionářích v učebnicích a další odborné literatuře v letech 1918 až 2018. Samotná práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První kapitola se věnuje metodologickému rámci celé práce, druhá kapitola je teoretickým rámcem, třetí a čtvrtá kapitola reprezentují empirickou část a poslední kapitola zahrnuje analytickou část práce, kde již dochází k samotné analýze publikací.

Abstract:

In 2018, the Czech Republic commemorated one hundred years since the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic, which is considered to be its antecedent state. In the context of the celebrations many symbols which represented the first Czechoslovak Republic were highlighted like e.g. Czechoslovak Legions and Legionnaires. Politicians and the whole regime were largely positive about their legacy. However, this discourse has not always been the same throughout history. The goal of this master's thesis is to reveal how during the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic the discourse and discursive practices developed in relation to the reflection on the Czechoslovak legions and legionnaires in textbooks and other professional literature in the years between 1918 and 2018. The thesis itself is divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter deals with the methodological framework of the whole thesis. The second chapter represents the theoretical framework. The following two chapters are the empirical part of this thesis. And the last chapter includes the analytical part of this thesis, where the analysis of the publications takes place.
