Civil Disobedience and Contemporary Environmental Movements

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je občanská neposlušnost a její analýza z teoretického i praktického pohledu, která umožní získat celistvý obraz tohoto konceptu. V první části se práce zaměřuje na teoretický popis a definici občanské neposlušnosti s pomocí známých autorů, dále práce představí význam čtyř sledovaných environmentálních sociálních hnutí a organizací, jež umístí s pomocí modelu Radical Social Movement Organizations na ose mezi radikální a umírněnou formu organizace. V metodologické části práce vysvětluje postup kvalitativního výzkumu, který proběhl formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s environmentálními aktivisty, kteří mají zkušenost s přímými akcemi občanské neposlušnosti. Cílem empirické části práce je zjistit vztah aktivistů k občanské neposlušnosti založený na jejich praktických zkušenostech.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is civil disobedience and its analysis from both theoretical and practical point of view, which will allow to obtain a holistic picture of this concept. In the first part, the work focuses on the theoretical description and definition of civil disobedience with the help of well-known authors. Next, the work presents the importance of four monitored environmental social movements and organizations, and uses the Radical Social Movement Organizations model to identify their qualitative position between radical and moderate type of organisation. The methodological part of the thesis explains the process of qualitative research, which took place in the form of semi-structured interviews with environmental activists who have experience with direct actions of civil disobedience. The aim of the empirical part of the work is to find out the relationship of activists to civil disobedience based on their practical experience.
