The Effect of Parent-Child Attachment in Children Ages 9-11 on Theirs Self-Esteem and Fears

Abstract:

Vychodiska: Cilem prace je zamerit se na prozkoumani souvislosti mezi citovou vazbou deti mladsiho skolniho veku k rodicum, jejich sebehodnocenim a celkovou strachuplnosti a strachem ze selhani a kritiky. Korelacni design vyzkumu byl zvolen se zamerem overit predpoklad existence vztahu mezi sledovanymi promennymi v ramci jednotlivych dyad - matka- dcera/syn a otec-dcera/syn. Metody:K ziskani dat byly pouzity dotaznikove metody. Pro zachyceni citove vazby k rodicum byla pouzita metoda IPPA, v upravene verzi z niz byly vylouceny negativni polozky sytici dimenzi "odcizeni" a citova vazba tak byla reprezentovana skalou "blizkosti". K mereni sebehodnoceni byla pouzita metoda RSE a k mereni celkove strachuplnosti a strachu ze selhani a kritky metoda FSSC-II. Analyzovan byl soubor 133 deti mlad3iho skolniho veku. Vysledky: Ziskana data ukazala, ze souvislost mezi citovou vazbou deti mladsiho skolniho veku a sebehodnocenim existuje, ovsem pouze v podsouboru divek.Souvislost mezi citovou vazbou a celkovou strachuplnosti byla odhalena pouze v dyade matka-dcera. Mezi citovou vazbou a strachy ze selhani akritiky u deti mladsiho skolniho veku nebyla nalezena zadna souvislost.

Abstract:

Backgroudn: The main focus of this thesis is on examining the parent-child attachment in school-aged children and its impact on the child´s sense of self-esteem, as well as her/his fears, and fear of failure and criticism. To prove the hypothesis that there indeed is a strong connection between the variants of individual dyad pairings observed - mother- daughter/son, father- daughter/son, the method of correlation design research was used. Method: Questionnaires were used to collect data. The problem of parent-child attachment was studied using IPPA ( Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment), which has been modified to exclude items focusing on the dimension of alienation; therefore, attachment was being measured using the items focusing on the dimension of closeness. The problem of self-esteem was assessed using th RSE scale ( Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale9; fears and fear of failure and criticism using the FSSC-II ( Fear Survey Schedule for Children-II). The researched group consisted of 133 childre ages 9 to 11. Results: From the data collected, it appears that there is a connection between parent-child attachment an self-esteem, but only in girls. Similary, a connection between attachment and fear was observed only in the mother-daughter dyad. No connection was found between fear of failure and criticism and attachment in school-aged children.
