Application of Lean principles in IT department proposal

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je navrhnout zlepšení vybraných procesů v Centru informatiky FPH. V první části jsou teoreticky vysvětleny pojmy z oblasti Lean managementu a provedena rešerše aktuálního, z valné většiny zahraničního, výzkumu v oblasti uplatnění Lean principů v IT a na vysokých školách. Aplikační část je provedena metodikou DMAIC, kdy jsou nejprve na základě prioritizační matice vybrány projekty ke zlepšení. Mezi projekty, které jsou podrobně analyzovány, a je u nich navrženo zlepšení, patří zlepšení procesu tvorby vizitek ke kancelářím, snížení chybovosti vyřízených požadavků a zlepšení organizace vpouštění studentů do PC učebny. Centrum informatiky FPH by na základě doporučených změn mohlo snížit chybovost vyřízených požadavků až o 70%, ušetřit až 30 hodin práce ročně a zlepšit pracovníkům výkon jejich práce.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to propose an improvement of selected processes in the Centre for informatics at the Faculty of Business Administration. In the first part, the theoretical terms from Lean management area are explained as well as a literature review in the area of application Lean principles in IT industry and the higher education institutions is presented. The application part of the thesis is performed by DMAIC methodology on the projects selected based on the prioritization matrix. These detailed analyzed projects include the improvement of the creation process of nameplates for doors, reducing the error rate of settled requests and improving a system of admitting students to the PC lab. Based on the results the Centre for informatics could decrease the error rate by up to 70%, save up to 30 man-hours a year and to improve the conditions of employee’s work.
