Anglicisms and Their Occurrence in Czech Language

Abstract:

This undergraduate thesis deals with the process of loanword adoption from the English language into the Czech language as one of the means of enriching Czech vocabulary. The thesis is composed of two main sections. In the theoretical part of my work general terms are defined and the influence of internationalization on the need for adopting new words into the Czech language and their adaptation into Czech language system are described. The practical part introduces individual examples of anglicisms, which have been found in chosen articles from different spheres of human activity (culture, sport, law, computing, history, economics). The anglicisms are classified on the basis of orthographic, orthoepic and morphological criteria given in the theoretical background. The following part analyzes the frequency of occurrence of anglicisms in the individual spheres and these expressions are later examined in terms of word classes and a brief commentary on results is provided.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá procesem přejímání slov z anglického do českého jazyka jako jedním ze způsobů obohacování české slovní zásoby. Práce se skládá ze dvou hlavních částí. V teoretické části vymezuji základní pojmy a popisuji vliv internacionalizace na potřebu přejímání nových slov do češtiny a jejich adaptací do systému českého jazyka. V praktické části uvádím konkrétní příklady anglicismů, které byly nalezeny ve vybraných českých článcích z různých oborů lidské činnosti (kultura, sport, právo, výpočetní technika, historie, ekonomika). Tyto anglicismy jsou klasifikovány na základě morfologických, ortografických a ortoepických kritérií uvedených v teoretické části. Následně vyhodnocuji četnost výskytu anglicismů v jednotlivých sférách, tyto výrazy později zkoumám podle slovních druhů a ke zjištěným výsledkům uvádím stručný komentář.
