Castrum Doloris of Baroque in the Czech Lands

Abstract:

Předložená práce se zabývá objekty dočasné pohřební architektrury doby baroka, zvané castrum doloris. Zblízka se zaměřuji na tyto efemerní objekty a soustředím svou pozornost k našemu území v oblasti Čech a Moravy, neboť pramenů, které o těchto objektech hovoří, nevzniklo mnoho, a ještě méně se jich dochovalo. V práci jsem se zabývala okolnostmi, které vedly ke vzniku tohoto fenoménu a podrobně rozebrala jejich historii a také jejich duchovní podstatu. Dále se zde soustředím na typologii dané architektury a to jak z hlediska formálního, tak ikonografického. Součástí předložené práce je také ukázkový katalog, který podrobně hovoří a popisuje konkrétní v minulosti vzniklé objekty. Jsou v něm chronologicky uvedeny příklady dvanácti caster doloris rozmanitého charakteru, vedoucích od královských objektů až k opatským tak, aby tento pestrý výběr pomohl čtenáři si co nejkonkrétněji utvořit představu o těchto dílech, o kterých dnes hovoří pouze kusé prameny a literatura a výjimečně vzniklá a dochovaná grafická vyobrazení.

Abstract:

The presented thesis focuses on the objects of temporary mortuary architecture from the Baroque period, known under the term of Castrum doloris. I closely focus on these ephemeral objects and concentrate my attention on the area of Bohemia and Moravia, because there is a lack of sources dealing with this topic. In my thesis I was dealing with factors which lead to the creation of this phenomenon and I was analysing their history in detail as well as their spiritual meaning. Then I focus on typology of this architecture, not only from the formal point of view, but also iconographic. There is an exemplary catalogue accompanying my thesis describing specific objects created in the past. There are chronologically written examples of twelve Castrum doloris of diverse characters, going from royal to abbot objects so this could help the reader create the best image about these works, about which we can only find information in a very few sources and literature and exceptionally created and preserved graphical illustrations.
