Abstract:

Architekt Othmar Skrabal (1885 Brno-1983 Mnichov) vystudoval Německou vysokou školu technickou v Brně, mezi válkami působil tamtéž. Věnoval se především navrhování obytných (rodinných i činžovních) domů. V roce 1938 odešel do Jeseníku, kde zastával funkci vedoucího okresního úřadu pro techniku (Kreisamt für Technik) a stavebního poradce. Zároveň pracoval jako samostatný architekt. Většina jeho projektů však nebyla kvůli válečnému stavu realizována. Po roce 1945 se Skrabal usadil v Mnichově a v rámci obnovy zničeného města se specializoval na stavby činžovních domů s malými byty. Jeho styl navazoval na místní stavební tradice a umírněným způsobem reflektoval dobové tendence.

Abstract:

Architect Othmar Skrabal (1885 Brno-1983 Mnichov) had studied at the German Technical University and between the Wars worked in Brno, designing mainly residential buildings (family and apartment houses). In 1938 he moved to Jeseník, where he held the office of a district technical bureau (Kreisamt für Technik) director and a building counsellor, while still also working as an independent architect. However, most of his projects remained unrealized due to the wartime. After 1945 Skrabal settled in Munich and, while taking part in the reconstruction of the war-damaged city, specialized in the designing of apartment houses with small flats. He developed a style that stemmed from the local building traditions and in a moderate way reflected the contemporary trends.
