The aim of this thesis is to provide an in-depth analysis of Daniel Defoe’s Robin-son Crusoe and Moll Flanders to illustrate the disparity between 18th century male and female form of social subjectivity. On one hand Robinson Crusoe is a suc-cessful and self-reliant businessman, glorified as a hero of economic individualism and a role-model for men in 18th century England.
