Mythic Transcendence in J.-M- G. Le Clézio's Novels

Abstract:

The aim of this master thesis consists in an attempt to give a clearer definition, explication and justification of the presence of mythic transcendence in the novels of J.-M.-G. Le Clézio. The novels of Le Clézio imply features of diverse myths and mythologies and therefore they lead up to the myths via their semantic interferences. Our analysis of mythic transcendence in the novels of Le Clézio tries to contribute to elucidate the kinds of proceedings by the medium of which these interferences are being created in his texts. This work is segmented to four dimensions in assistance of which it explores the highely mentioned semantic interferences ; the dimensions of time, space, protagonists and narrative techniques. In sense of this exploration we are trying to focus on subjective features of the way Le Clézio presents the differences in understanding of the notions like discourse and narration, time, space, characters and narrator as narrative categories. Our work points to an extraordinarily admirable variability of the Le Clézio forms of expression of these narrative categories, to their interesting structure and their thematic anchorage in eight explored novels : Désert, Le chercheur d’or (The prospector), Mondo et autres histoires, L‘Africain, Onitsha, La relation de Michoacan, Les prophéties de Chilam Balam a Voyages de l’autre côté.

Abstract:

Cieľ tejto magisterskej diplomovej práce spočíva v pokuse o jasnejšie definovanie, vysvetlenie a odôvodnenie prítomnosti mýtického transcendentna v románoch J.-M.-G. Le Clézia. Le Cléziove romány využívajú prvky rozličných mýtov a mytológií, pričom samy k mýtom smerujú svojimi významovými presahmi. Naša analýza mýtického transcendentna v Le Cléziových románoch sa pokúša prispieť k objasneniu spôsobov a postupov, ktorými sa tieto presahy v jeho textoch vytvárajú. Táto práca je rozčlenená na štyri dimenzie, pomocou ktorých skúma konkrétne prípady vyššie uvedených významových presahov. Ide o dimenzie: čas, priestor, hlavné postavy a rozprávač. V zmysle tohto nášho skúmania sa pokúšame zamerať na subjektívne prvky spôsobov, ktorými Le Clézio prezentuje rozdiely v chápaní pojmov: diskurz a rozprávanie, čas, priestor, protagonisti a rozprávač ako naratívne kategórie. Práca poukazuje na obdivuhodnú variabilitu Le Cléziových foriem vyjadrenia týchto naratívnych kategórií, ich zaujímavú štruktúru a tématické zakotvenie v ôsmich skúmaných románoch: Désert, Le chercheur d‘or, Mondo et autres histoires, L‘Africain, Onitsha, La relation de Michoacan, Les prophéties de Chilam Balam a Voyages de l’autre côté.
