Evaluation of the remediation efficiency at Dolní Třešňovec site

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce se zabývá hodnocením účinnosti sanačních opatření na lokalitě Dolní Třešňovec, kde došlo k masivní kontaminaci podzemních a povrchových vod těkavými chlorovanými uhlovodíky (ClU) z bývalé skládky průmyslových odpadů OEZ Letohrad. Práce posuzuje historii provozu skládky, charakter kontaminace a realizované sanační práce, včetně vybudování podzemní těsnící stěny. Dále se věnuje přírodním poměrům studované lokality, charakteristice chlorovaných ethylenů a jejich migraci v horninovém prostředí. Metodická část zahrnuje terénní měření a sestavení hydrogeologického modelu proudění podzemních vod pomocí softwaru Processing Modflow. Bylo zjištěno, že vybudováním podzemní těsnící stěny nedošlo k úspěšné izolaci ohniska kontaminace od okolního prostředí, a tak stále dochází ke vstupu kontaminantů do podzemních vod. Z výsledků práce je navrženo prognózní hodnocení budoucího vývoje kontaminace a jsou definována rizika spojená se současným stavem. Diplomová práce přispívá ke zpřesnění informací ohledně funkčnosti užívaných sanačních metod v případě této konkrétní lokality.

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of the effectiveness of remediation measures at the Dolní Třešňovec site, where massive contamination of ground and surface waters by volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons from the former OEZ Letohrad industrial waste landfill occurred. The thesis assesses the history of the landfill operation, the nature of the contamination and the implemented remediation work, including the construction of an underground sealing wall. It also focuses on the natural conditions of the study site, the characteristics of chlorinated ethylenes and its migration in the rock environment. The methodological part includes field measurements and the construction of a hydrogeological model of groundwater flow using Processing Modflow software. It was found that the construction of an underground sealing wall did not successfully isolate the source of contamination from the surrounding environment, and thus contaminants still enter the groundwater. From the results of the work, a prognostic assessment of the future development of contamination is proposed and the risks associated with the current situation are defined. The thesis contributes to clarifying the information regardingthe functionality of the remediation methods used in the case of this particular site.
