The Formists (Formiści) in the context of European avant-garde trends

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na polskou avantgardní skupinu Formisté, která působila od roku 1917 až 1922. Ve snaze vytvořit nový národní styl, kombinovala prvky kubismu, expresionismu a futurismu s polským tradičním uměním. Za českou analogii ke skupině Formisté, může být považována skupina Tvrdošíjní, která vznikla ve stejném období a za podobných okolností čili po vzniku nezávislého státu. Práce má za cíl nejprve zasadit skupinu Formisté do evropské avantgardy, posléze představit její stěžejní představitelé a tvorbu. V závěru komparuje skupinu Formisté a Tvrdošíjní.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the Polish avant-garde group Formists, which was active from 1917 to 1922. In an effort to create a new national style, the group combined elements of Cubism, Expressionism and Futurism with Polish traditional art. The Czech analogy to the Formists group can be considered the Tvrdošíjní group, which was established in the same period and in similar circumstances, ie after the establishment of an independent state. The thesis first aims to place the group Formists into the context of European avant-garde, then to introduce its key artists and artworks. In the end both groups are compared with aim to find their artistic similarities.
