Neuroethology principles of insect orientation.

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na principy, jejichž pomocí se hmyz orientuje v čase a prostoru. V úvodních kapitolách jsou rozebírány mechanismy, které hmyzu umožňují přijímat a zpracovávat informace o jejich okolním prostředí. Jelikož se jedná o informace grafické, respektive vektorové, hovoříme o vizuální, respektive vektorové paměti. Dále jsou v práci diskutovány vazby mezi jednotlivými prvky snímku a také jejich vliv na to, která paměť bude v daný čas na daném místě zavolána. Na některých místech konkrétní trasy může být k dispozici několik snímků, jež místu odpovídají, proto hmyz musí disponovat mechanismy, jež některý ze snímků upřednostní a jiný naopak potlačí. Tyto mechanismy jsou v práci rovněž rozebírány. Neméně důležitým faktorem pro výběr trasy u hmyzu je také aktuální motivace. Hladový jedinec například půjde za potravou ochotněji, než jedinec sytý. Poslední kapitola práce se zaměřuje na magnetorecepci, jíž bych se při svém dalším studiu rád zabýval.

Abstract:

This work focuses on the principles by which the insects orient in time and space. The mechanisms that serve for acquiring and storing the necessary information about the insect’s surrounding are discussed in the first chapters. Since the information have a characteristics of visual/vector input, the memories that serve for storing of this information are called adequately to this fact. We talk about visual/vector memory. The next point to talk about are the bindings and associations within the stored memories and their influence on retrieving concrete memory at a concrete place. Since there are usually several memories (snapshots) available at one point of a route, insects must have some mechanisms that prime the correct snapshots (relevant to the current route) and suppresses the others. These mechanisms are also mentioned in the work. Motivational state of the insects proved to be an important factor for making the decision where and when to go. The hungry animal will be more likely to go looking for food than to return to its nest, for example. The last section of this work focuses on magnetoreception, which will hopefully be the subject of my further studies in the future.
