Anatomy of misinformation from the perspective of selected media cases

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce je věnována tématu dezinformace z pohledu vybraných mediálních kauz. Autorka se v textu práce pokouší nalézt vhodnou metodu pro výzkum dezinformačních kauz v tištěných médiích. Použitím komparace tří mediálních kauz z různých časových období se autorka snaží poukázat na to, že v daném vzorku kauz existuje určitý univerzální postup při konstrukci dezinformace. Komunikační strategie, které jsou pro tvorbu dezinformace použity, jsou zkoumány kombinací dvou kvalitativních metod. Stěžejní metodou práce je interpretativní sociologické čtení za využití strukturální mřížky. Tato metoda odhaluje strukturu dezinformace v daných mediálních kauzách. Doplňující metodou v analýzách jednotlivých kauz je sémiotická analýza, která vhodným způsobem doplňuje poznatky získané interpretativním sociologickým čtením. Základním cílem práce bylo najít postupy v tvorbě dezinformace, které jsou univerzální pro všechny zkoumané kauzy a také zjistit, v kterých postupech se tyto kauzy liší. Autorka v rámci analýz identifikovala jak univerzální postupy, tak variantní komunikační strategie.

Abstract:

This master thesis investigate the theme of misinformation from the perspective of selected media cases. The author of the thesis tries to find a suitable method for research of misinformation media cases in print media. Using the comparison of three media cases from different time periods, the author tries to point out that there are some universal procedures in the construction of misinformation. Communication strategies that are used to create misinformation are investigated by combining two qualitative methods. The fundamental method of this thesis is a interpretive sociological reading using a structural grid. This method detects the structure of the misinformation in the media cases. Additional analysis method in individual cases is a semiotic analysis that adequately complements the knowledge gained with the interpretive sociological reading. The basic aim was to find procedures in the creation of misinformation that are universal for all investigated cases and also identify in which procedures these cases differ. The author identified as universal and alternative communication strategies.
