The Needs of People with High-functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome in View of Autonomous Life

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá potřebami lidí s vysoce-funkčním autismem a Aspergerovým syndromem spojených s autonomním životem. Cílem práce je zodpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: Jak definují lidé s VFA/AS své potřeby spojené s autonomním životem? Bakalářská práce je členěna na tři části – teoretickou, metodologickou a interpretační. V teoretické části jsou definovány základní pojmy jako je vysoce-funkční autismus, Aspergerův syndrom, sociální práce a sociální služby pro lidi s vysoce-funkčním autismem a Aspergerovým syndromem a také jejich potřeby. Dále je v metodologické části zpracována výzkumná strategie a metoda sběru dat. Výzkumná strategie je kvalitativní a byl zvolen polostrukturovaný rozhovor. V interpretační části jsou zodpovězeny dílčí výzkumné otázky, zaměřené na definici autonomního života z pohledu lidí s vysoce-funkčním autismem a Aspergerovým syndromem, na jejich specifické potřeby spojené s bydlením, konceptem self-focus, socializací a vztahy, péčí o zdraví, zaměstnáním a kariérou a také s manželstvím a rodičovstvím. V závěru práce je zodpovězena hlavní výzkumná otázka. Potřeby lidí s VFA/AS spojené s autonomním životem závisí na zvýšení self-awerness a sebehodnocení vlastních kompetencí.

Abstract:

This thesis concerns the needs of people with high-functioning autism and Asperger syndrome conected to the autonomous life. The aim of this study is to answer the main research question – How people with HFA/AS define their needs allied to the autonomous life? The bachelor thesis is devided into three parts – theory, methodology and interpretation (of the collected data). In the first theoretical part there are characterized the basic concepts like high-functioningn autism and Asperger syndrome, social work and social services for people with HFA/AS and also their specific needs. In the methodological part there are eleborated the research strategy and the method of data collection. The research strategy is qualitative and the semi-structured interview was used. In the interpretation part there are answered the partial research questions refering to the autonomous life trough the point of view of people with HFA/AS, also refering to their specific needs bound up with living, the concept of self-focus, socialization, health care, employment and career, marriage and parenthood. In the end on the thesis the main research question is answered. The needs of people with HFA/AS connected to the autonomous life depends on the level of their self-awerness and self-evalution of their competences.
