Secondary digital divide: from ownership to skills

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problém sekundární digital divide. Práce je pojata teoreticky a jejím cílem je snaha o komplexní zobrazení problematiky s ohledem na historický vývoj i současnost. Úvod je věnován teoriím informační společnosti, na kterou navazuje pojednání o informační a počítačové gramotnosti. Následuje část věnovaná historii digital divide s vysvětlením toho, jakým způsobem se původní koncept primárního digital divide posunul k současnému vnímání tohoto problému: k sekundárnímu digital divide. Práce se zde opírá především o koncepty Jana van Dijka a Neila Selwyna s přihlédnutím k teorii kapitálu od Bourdieua. V práci jsou nastíněny i metody měření digital divide pomocí kompozitních indexů. Důležitou součástí práce je především popsání současných trendů v oblasti překonávání sekundární digitální propasti a v jejím závěru zmapování současného stavu digital divide v České republice.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the problem of the secondary digital divide. This work is conceived theoretically and it is aimed at complex representation the issue with regard to the historical development and present. The introduction is devoted to theories of the information society, which is followed by discussion of information and computer literacy. The following is part of the history of digital divide with an explanation of how the original concept of the primary digital divide has moved to the current perception of the issue: the secondary digital divide. Working is mainly based on the concepts of Jan van Dijk and Neil Selwyn with regard to the theory of capital from Bourdieu. The work outlines the methods of measuring the digital divide through composite indexes. An important part of the work is to describe current trends in overcoming the secondary digital divide and in conclusion mapping the current status of digital divide in the Czech Republic.
