Democratic Consolidation in Selected African Countries

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zjistit, jak proběhl proces demokratické konsolidace ve vybraných zemích, které se v kontextu afrického kontinentu považují v tomto ohledu za úspěšné, konkrétně v Botswaně, Ghaně a Mosambiku, a potvrdit či vyvrátit hypotézu, že na základě jejich politického, sociálního a ekonomického vývoje jsou vybrané země konsolidované demokracie. Dále je cílem výsledky jednotlivých případů porovnat a vystihnout jejich specifika, odlišnosti a také aspekty, ve kterých se shodují. Práce používá metodiku kvalitativní komparativní případové studie. První část se věnuje problematice demokratické konsolidace z teoretického hlediska, zaměřuje se na různá pojetí a vymezuje podmínky, za kterých lze považovat demokracii za konsolidovanou. Druhá část popisuje situaci v jednotlivých zemích na základě stanovených kritérií. Poslední část shrnuje získané poznatky, porovnává jednotlivé země a hodnotí konsolidaci demokracie.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to find out how the democratic consolidation process happened in selected countries, which are considered to be succesful in democratization in Africa, specifically in Botswana, Ghana and Mozambique and to confirm or disprove the hypothesis that on the basis of political, social and economic develompent the selected countries are consolidated democracies. Next goal is to compare the results of the three cases, describe the specifics, differencies and also aspects, which are the same or similar. The thesis uses the metodology of qualitative comparative study. The first part describe theory of democratic consolidation, different approaches and conditions for demoratic consolidation. The second part analyses the three cases on the basis of given criterion. The last part summarizes the findings, compare the three countries and evaluate democratic consolidation.
