Children of the Alpha generation in the perspective of kindergarten teachers

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce má teoreticko-empirický charakter. Cílem práce je odhalit, jak učitelé mateřských škol nahlížejí na děti předškolního věku, které zde označujeme jako příslušníky generace Alfa. V teoretické části práce je vymezeno pojetí dítěte a dětství v současné společnosti následováno objasněním konceptu kulturních generací a generace Alfa. V praktické části jsou prezentovány výsledky kvalitativně orientovaného výzkumu, kdy jako metodu sběru dat bylo zvoleno polostrukturované interview. Výzkumný vzorek tvořilo osm učitelek veřejných mateřských škol ze Zlínského a Olomouckého kraje. Z analýzy dat vyplynulo sedm významových kategorií, které odhalily charakteristiky dětí předškolního věku, skrze které na ně participantky nahlíží. Děti jsou dle nich vznětlivé ve svém chování, mají sklony k sebestřednosti, jsou méně samostatné a mají problematické vztahy s vrstevníky. Jejich komunikační dovednosti jsou omezené a proměnou prochází také spontánní hra dětí a jejich dětství, které participantky vnímají jako výkonově orientované. Dále jsou děti charakterizovány svým těsným vztahem k moderním technologiím.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis has a theoretical-empirical character. The object of the thesis is to reveal how kindergarten teachers view preschool children, which we refer to as members of the Alpha generation. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concept of the child and childhood in today's society, followed by clarification of the concept of cultural generations and the Alpha generation. The practical part presents the results of qualitatively oriented research, where the chosen method of data collection was semi-structured interview. The research sample consisted of eight teachers of public kindergartens from the Zlín and Olomouc regions. The analysis of the data revealed seven categories of meaning, which revealed the characteristics of preschool children, through which the participants view them. According to them, children are irritable in their behaviour, are prone to self-centeredness, less independent and have problematic relationships with peers. Their communication skills are limited and the spontaneous play of children and their childhood, which the participants perceive as performance-oriented, is also undergoing change. Furthermore, children are characterized by their close relationship to modern technology.
