Communicative Competence Comprehension Testing in Czech and English

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce se zabývá testováním rozsahu komunikační kompetence dvou souborů respondentů ? zahraničních a českých vysokoškolských studentů. První část práce upozorňuje na aktuálnost zvoleného tématu v evropském i národním kontextu a popisuje základní dokumenty zabývající se jazykovým vzděláváním v rámci Evropské unie i České republiky ? Společný evropský referenční rámec a Evropské jazykové portfolio, vymezuje základní pojmy z oblasti testování a na základě odborné literatury zahraniční i české popisuje vybrané modely komunikační kompetence. Pozornost je v této kapitole věnována i etice v procesu testování. Ve druhé části jsou charakterizovány soubory respondentů a instituce, na níž studují, a detailně rozebrána výuka češtiny ve skupině zahraničních studentů. Dále jsou popsány výzkumné metody a výzkum, který byl rozdělen do dvou částí ? dotazníkového šetření a testování dvou respondentů pomocí dvou standardizovaných jazykových zkoušek analyzována získaná data. V této části jsou rovněž uvedena data získaná výzkumnou sondou mapující pregraduální přípravu studentů vysokých škol postoje učitelů k testování jazyků a pregraduální přípravu studentů vysokých škol.

Abstract:

The present dissertation deals with testing communicative competence level of two samples of respondents ? foreign and Czech university students. The first part of this work reveals how current the chosen topic is in both the European and national context, describes the basic documents regarding language education in the EU and the Czech Republic - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and European Language Portfolio, defines basic terms from the field of testing and, based on foreign and Czech resources describes selected models of communicative competence. In this chapter the ethics of the testing process is discussed as well. The second part characterizes the samples of respondents and the institution where they study, and analyses teaching Czech in a group of foreign students in detail. It also describes the research methods as well as the research which was divided into two parts ? a questionnaire survey and testing two respondents in two standardized language exams, and provides the analysis of the collected data. This part also presents the data obtained in the survey which was focused on undergraduate university students? training and approaches of teachers to language testing.
