Co-operative, social enterprise or something more? Case study of café Tři ocásci

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá brněnským sociálním družstvem Tři ocásci. Družstvo má 24 členů a v současné době (květen 2017) provozuje pohošťovnu a cukrárnu. Cílem této práce je popsat fungování družstva Tři ocásci a určit, zda naplňuje sedm družstevních principů a jestli lze označit za sociální podnik. V teoretické části je vymezen koncept sociální ekonomiky, ze kterého vycházím, když popisuji koncept sociálního podniku. Následuje popis konceptu družstva a družstevních principů a na v závěru teoretické části je vymezen vztah mezi sociálním podnikem a družstvem. Případová studie je postavena na kvalitativní analýze čtyř rozhovorů s členy představenstva družstva Tři ocásci a jeho interních dokumentů. Výsledky výzkumu ukazují, že sociální družstvo Tři ocásci naplňuje alespoň částečně všechny družstevní principy a že jej lze také označit za sociální podnik. Z výzkumu vyplynul specifický přístup zkoumaného družstva k vlastnímu financování, kterým se zabývá diskuze.

Abstract:

This thesis examines a social cooperative Tři ocásci which are situated in Brno. This cooperative comprises 24 members and currently (May 2017) manages two businesses – gastropub and cafe/pastry shop. The main aim of the study is to describe the functioning of cooperative Tři ocásci and test if it fulfills 7 cooperative principles and if it could be considered as a social enterprise. In the theoretical section, the concept of social economy is treated. This concept forms another concept – social enterprise, which is then described. Another concept which is explained is a concept of cooperative together with 7 cooperative principles. The mutual relationship among social enterprise and cooperative is defined at the end of the theoretical section. The case study is based on qualitative analysis of four interviews with members of cooperatives board of directors and its internal documents. The results show that the examined social cooperative Tři ocásci to some extent fulfills all seven cooperative principles and that it also can be considered as a social enterprise. The results also show specific cooperatives approach towards financing that is described in the discussion.
