Dynamic Behavior Analysis of Turbocharger Rotors

Abstract:

Tato práce je motivována problémy dynamiky lehkých rychloběžných rotorů, jako jsou např. rotory turbodmychadel pro automobilové motory. Specifickým prvkem těchto rotorů je uložení pomocí kluzných ložisek s plovoucími volnými kroužky a tedy se dvěma olejovými filmy v jednom ložisku. V práci je podrobně popsáno odvození matematického modelu poddajného rotoru s tuhými kotouči a s kluznými ložisky a jsou shrnuty hlavní typy analýz z oblasti rotordynamiky. Na základě odvozené teorie byl v MATLABu zpracován programový prostředek FEMROT pro řešení úloh rotordynamiky, jehož vybrané výsledky jsou dále srovnávány s výsledky komerčního programového prostředku AVL EXCITE. Důležitou částí práce je popis sestavení výpočtového modelu rotoru reálného turbodymychadla a naladění parametrů sestaveného modelu s ohledem na experimentálně zjištěné vlastní frekvence rotoru. Vzhledem k~malé váze rotoru, která ztěžuje využití standardní experimentální modální analýzy, byla navržena a zrealizována metoda měření vlastních frekvencí založená na akustické odezvě rotoru na vhodné buzení. Závěr práce je věnován vlastnímu srovnání výsledků dynamické analýzy reálného turbodymychadla provedené pomocí programů FEMROT a AVL EXCITE. Výsledky jsou zhodnoceny s ohledem na charakter jednotlivých přístupů k modelování a analýze rotoru implementovaných v obou programech.

Abstract:

This thesis is motivated by the problems of lightweight high-speed rotors, e.g. by the problems of turbocharger rotors of automotive engines. Bearings of these rotors are designed as oil-film bearings with floating rings and therefore two fluid films are present in one bearing. Detailed derivation of the mathematical model of a flexible rotor with rigid discs and oil-film bearings is described in the thesis and main types of analyses in rotordynamics are summarized. The FEMROT software was developed in the MATLAB environemnt on the basis of introduced theory and its chosen results are further compared with the results obtained by the commercial software tool AVL EXCITE. The important part of the thesis is the description of the creation of a real turbocharger rotor model and its parameter tuning with respect to the measured rotor eigenfrequencies. The application of a standard experimental modal analysis can be very difficult for lightweight structures and thus the eigenfrequency measurement based on a rotor acoustic response on a suitable excitation was proposed and performed. The comparison of the results obtained by FEMROT and AVL EXCITE for the real turbocharger is shown in the end of the thesis. The results are evaluated with respect to the properties of particular modelling and analysis approaches implemented in both programs.
