Language games for young learners to encourage their communication skills in English.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá užitím jazykových her a aktivit pro podporu komunikačních dovedností v procesu učení se anglickému jazyku. V teoretické části se text věnuje rozboru hry a jejích specifik ve výuce anglického jazyka. Text vysvětluje pojmy spontánní a didaktická hra a zmiňuje jejich důležitost pro žáky mladšího školního věku. Dále pak charakterizuje mluvení a komunikaci, zvláště v dětském věku. Na konci teoretické části se pojí obojí předešlé. Je vysvětlena jazyková hra a její přínos ve výuce anglického jazyka. V praktické části jsou uvedeny některé hry, které mohou být používány k podpoře komunikace v anglickém jazyce. Dále obsahuje analýzu dat, kde jsou shrnuty názory žáků 1. stupně základní školy na míru zábavy a kognitivní zátěže her a na obecné využití her ve výuce anglického jazyka. V závěru je provedena analýza výsledků, která hodnotí, zda užívání her při výuce anglického jazyka je přínosné a efektivní z hlediska podpory mluvení v cizím jazyce.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with using language games and activities to encourage the communication skills in learning the English language by young learners. The theoretical part of the thesis describes game and its specifics in teaching the English language. The text explains the terms spontaneous and didactic game and mentions their importance of games for young learners. Next, it characterizes speaking and communication, especially in childhood. The final section of the theoretical part connects games and learning English and it explains language game and its benefit for teaching the English language. The practical part contains analysis of data, where the views of primary school pupils on a degree of fun and cognitive challenge of games in English classes are summarized. Finally, there is an evaluation of the results, which give us the information whether using games are beneficial and effective in terms of encouragement of speaking a foreign language.
