Clinical diagnosis of infections caused by resistant staphylococci

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části se práce zaměřuje na podrobné seznámení s rodem Staphylococcus spp. V rámci této části je poskytnut detailní přehled o obecných charakteristikách stafylokoků, včetně faktorů virulence, výskytu, přenosu a patogenity. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na klinicky nejvýznamnější druh této bakterie, Staphylococcus aureus. Dále se práce věnuje problematice rezistentních kmenů stafylokoků, které jsou odolné vůči antibiotikům. V rámci této části je také podrobně rozebrán mechanismus rezistence a působení účinku antibiotik. Poslední část teoretické části je věnována metodám používaným pro diagnostiku stafylokoků. Praktická část práce se zaměřuje na detekci stafylokoků, zejména na meticilin-rezistentní S. aureus (MRSA). Tato část práce zahrnuje statistické zpracování dat o výskytu této bakterie ve Fakultní nemocnici Plzeň. Cílem této části je poskytnout podrobný přehled o rozšíření a výskytu MRSA v nemocničním prostředí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, the thesis focuses on a detailed introduction to the genus Staphylococcus spp. This part provides a detailed overview of the general characteristics of staphylococci, including virulence factors, occurrence, transmission, and pathogenicity. Special emphasis is placed on the most clinically important species of this bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, the thesis addresses the issue of antibiotic resistant strains of staphylococci. The mechanism of resistance and the action of antibiotics is also discussed in detail. The last part of the theoretical part is devoted to the methods used for the diagnosis of staphylococci. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the detection of staphylococci, especially MRSA. This part of the work includes statistical processing of data on the occurrence of this bacterium in the University Hospital Pilsen. The aim of this part is to provide a detailed overview of the prevalence and incidence of MRSA in the hospital environment.
