The Creative Process of Czech Filmmakers: Insight versus Production Model

Abstract:

Kreativita poskytuje široké spektrum oblastí pro výzkum. I když je pro uměleckou tvorbu naprosto klíčovým faktorem, málokterý kreativec těmto procesům rozumí. Cílem této bakalářské práce je proto porozumění tvůrčím procesům mladé generace českých filmařů a identifikace prvků, které při tvorbě pomáhají. Pro výzkum využívá kvalitativní metodu hloubkových rozhovorů, které následně analyzuje a aplikuje na ně metodu mentálních modelů Insight a Produkční, které představují specifické přístupy ke generaci nápadů. Z tohoto rozboru identifikuje čtyři základní směry implicitních teorií kreativity filmařů a zjišťuje, že pozorování, hudba a konzultace jsou výraznými prvky ovlivňujícími kreativitu. Zjištění dále naznačují, že časový dostatek či nedostatek má větší vliv na výkony filmařů než jejich mentální modely. Dominantním modelem většiny filmařů je model Insight, nicméně primárně pro potřeby validace svých nápadů využívají také modelu Produkčního. Schopnost modely kombinovat je dobrým předpokladem pro kreativní výkon. Závěry práce poskytují ucelený pohled na tvůrčí procesy filmařů, nabízí seznam prvků pro zlepšení jejich kreativních procesů a přináší podněty pro zamyšlení a lepší porozumění vlastní kreativitě.

Abstract:

Creativity offers a wide spectrum of areas for exploration. Although it is a crucial factor in arts, few creatives truly understand these processes. Therefore, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to understand the creative processes of the young generation of Czech filmmakers and to identify the elements that optimize their creative performance. For research, it employs the qualitative method of in-depth interviews, which are subsequently analyzed and applied to the Insight and Production mental models theory, which describes specific approaches to idea generation. This analysis identifies four basic directions of filmmakers' implicit theories of creativity and finds that observation, music, and consultation are significant elements influencing creativity. The findings further suggest that the abundance or lack of time has a greater impact on filmmakers' performance than their mental models. The dominant model for most filmmakers is the Insight model, yet they also use the Production model primarily for validating their ideas. The ability to combine models is a good prerequisite for creative performance. The conclusions of the thesis provide a comprehensive view of filmmakers' creative processes, offer a list of elements for improving their creative processes, and provide stimuli for reflection and better understanding of their own creativity.
