Issue Ownership in the Czech Party Competition Through the Lenses of Political Parties: Interpretative Case Study

Abstract:

V naší práci jsme se pokusili představit a interpretovat současnou českou stranickou soutěž z pohledu teorie tematického vlastnictví a konceptu tematické palčivosti. Díky teoretické neuzavřenosti těchto konceptů je hlavním cílem textu doplnit stav českého zkoumání těchto fenoménů o nový rozměr – a sice interpretovat současnou tematickou soutěž optikou samotných stran, které v roce 2013 získaly parlamentní zastoupení. Na základě dotazníkového šetření jsme získali podrobný obraz toho, jak strany vnímají palčivost jednotlivých témat, o vlastnění kterých z nich usilují, jak vnímají konkurenci a vzdálenost jejich pozic i jakou strategii pro soutěž o témata volí.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis presents and interprets Czech current party competition from the perspective of the issue ownership theory and the concept of issue salience. On the grounds of ambiguity of these concepts, the main goal of this text is to broaden the Czech research of these phenomena with new perspective – to interpret current issue competition from the view of political parties that won parliamentary representation in 2013. Via questionnaire survey we obtain in-depth image of how the parties perceive salience of the issues, which of the issues the parties strive to own, how the parties perceive their competition as well as their position distance and what strategy the parties go for.
