Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem veřejné diplomacie jako nástroje zahraniční politiky malých států, Kataru a Bahrajnu. Cílem práce je provést komparativní analýzu cílů veřejné diplomacie Kataru a Bahrajnu a nástrojů, jaké vybrané státy využívají. Práce je rozdělena pěti kapitol. Teoreticko-metodologickou část tvoří vysvětlení pojmů měkká moc a veřejná diplomacie a metodologický postup. Stěžejním pojmem této práce je veřejná diplomacie, s kterou souvisí pojmy jako sportovní diplomacie, kulturní diplomacie a nation branding. Tyto pojmy jsou v této části také vysvětleny. Empirická část práce je tvořena dvěma případovými studiemi veřejných diplomacií Kataru a Bahrajnu. U obou států jsou popsány cíle veřejné diplomacie v jejich zahraniční politice a nástroje veřejné diplomacie, které využívají. První studie se věnuje Kataru. Zahraničněpolitické cíle Kataru jsou velice ambiciózní, veřejná diplomacie hraje v dosažní cílů klíčovou roli. K hlavním nástrojům patří především sportovní diplomacie, kdy Katar organizuje celosvětově významné sportovní události, ale také kulturní diplomacie a nation branding jako turisticky atraktivní destinace. Druhá studie se věnuje Bahrajnu, jehož zahraničněpolitické cíle jsou mnohem skromnější. Přesto nástrojů veřejné diplomacie hojně využívá. Stejně jako u Kataru je zde prozkoumána sportovní a kulturní diplomacie a nation branding. V závěrečné části práce jsou prezentovány výsledky výzkumu a významná zjištění týkající se veřejné diplomacie zkoumaných států, rozdíly a podobnosti v jejich pojetí a využívání veřejné diplomacie.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of public diplomacy as a tool of foreign policy of small states, Qatar and Bahrain. The aim of the thesis is to conduct a comparative analysis of the objectives of public diplomacy of Qatar and Bahrain and the tools used by these countries. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The theoretical-methodological part consists of an explanation of the concepts of soft power and public diplomacy and methodological procedure. The main concept of this thesis is public diplomacy, which is related to concepts such as sport diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and nation branding. These concepts are also explained in this section. The empirical part of the thesis consists of two case studies of the public diplomacies of Qatar and Bahrain. Within both countries, the goals of public diplomacy in their foreign policy and the tools of public diplomacy they use are described. The first study is devoted to Qatar. Qatar's foreign policy goals are very ambitious, it's public diplomacy plays a key role in achieving goals. The main tools include sport diplomacy due to the fact that Qatar organizes important sporting events worldwide, but also cultural diplomacy and nation branding as tourist-attractive destinations. The second study focuses on Bahrain, whose foreign policy goals are much more modest. Nevertheless, it makes extensive use of the tools of public diplomacy. As in Qatar's case, sports and cultural diplomacy and nation branding are examined in this part. The final part of the thesis presents the results of the research and the significant findings concerning public diplomacy of the studied countries, differences and similarities in their conception and use of public diplomacy.
