Optimisation of transaction monitoring system using machine learning

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá optimalizací systémů monitorování podezřelých transakcí. Hlavním cílem je vytvořit automatizovanou metodu kalibrace systému založenou na strojovém učení. Optimalizovaná konfigurace může mít zásadní dopad na efektivitu systémů a vygenerovaný počet falešně pozitivních upozornění. V první části práce jsou položeny teoretické základy praní špinavých peněz a shrnuty nástroje, které banky používají k zamezení této činnosti. Poté jsou popsány problémy spojené s použitím monitorovacích systémů a jejich dopad na byznys. Další část práce se týká řešení jednoho z hlavních problémů, nízké efektivity. Jsou navrženy 2 metody, na bázi optimalizace nákladů a logistické regrese. Obě slouží k nalezení optimální konfigurace systému. Poslední dvě části popisují implementaci těchto metod a evaluaci na příkladových datech.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the calibration of systems monitoring suspicious transactional activity. The main goal is to create an automated method of calibration based on machine learning. The optimised configuration has a huge impact on the system's efficiency and the volume of generated false positives. The first part contains the theoretical foundations of money laundering and describes AML practices. The second part describes the issues the banks face when using monitoring systems and their implications on the business. The third part includes the analysis of the efficiency problems. It follows with the design of two methods, cost analysis and logistic regression. Both of them serve to find the optimal configuration of the system's scenarios. The final parts of the thesis focus on the implementation of said methods and their evaluation.
